LPGA stars gear up for Mobile Bay LPGA Classic
The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic is going to be played from April 26-29 at Magnolia Grove’s Crossings Course, with the presence of big stars on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Formerly known as Avnet LPGA Classic, the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic was first launched in 2009, and has been providing fans a chance to witness quality golf.
According to the details, the field for the current years’ tournament has almost been confirmed, with the participation of the defending champion Maria Hjorth.
The tournament officials said that the field is yet to be completed, but most of the big names have confirmed their commitment to play the event.
Se Ri Pak, Karrie Webb, Christina Kim and world number 10 Paula Creamer are among the confirmed players.
The officials said that the tournament will feature a solid field of 144 players, with $1,250,000 purse.
The current world number one Yani Tseng, who appears to be in a stunning form, has not said a word about whether she will play the tournament or not.
Another prominent figure of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, Juli Inkster, also has not confirmed her participation so far.
Analysts said that the much-hyped event will gain even more attention if the top-ranked Tseng gives the green signal of her participation.
They said that Tseng can be the toughest contender in the tournament, as she has racked up 3 titles in the current season so far.
Defending champion Hjorth is also one of the hot favourites, and she will try to repeat what she did last year.
Sharing her thoughts about the stunning victory she carved out in the last edition, Hjorth said that she was determined not to surrender to her nerve, and this was what helped her inflict a defeat on Lexi Thompson.
Tournament Director Jonathan Romeo said that the field, despite the fact that it is yet to be completed, appears to be pretty strong.
“Anytime you have the top American players Cristie Kerr, Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Brittany Lincicome (all ranked in the top 10 of the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings), plus crowd favorites like Christina Kim, Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis, we
are in for a great week of entertaining golf in Mobile," Romeo said.
