LPGA stars to vie for a whopping $1.3 million purse at Kingsmill Championship 2012
The Kingsmill Championship 2012 is going to kick off from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia, with a whopping $1.3 million purse and a formidable field packed with most
of the big names on the Ladies professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour.
The tournament purse is hefty enough to lure players and official of the Kingsmill Championship have expressed their hope that the number of spectators will double this year.
The biggest attraction will be the defending champion Cristie Kerr of the United States, who is favourite for the title not only for her stunning performance in the 2009 edition of the tournament, but also
due to the support American spectators are going to give her when she tees off on September 6.
Golf crazy Americans want the national players to keep the prestigious title within the United States, and most of the eyes will be fixed on Kerr because she has racked up two titles at the Kingsmill Championship.
Kerr expressed her desire to add more victories to her profile while speaking during the Safeway Classic 2012. She said that she is desperately seeking to win as it has been months since she racked up her last
LPGA title at the LPGA Championship — a major tournament.
The American star conceded to the fact that she could not record a single victory despite taking part in several events in the 2011 season. However, the 2012 season can prove lucky for the LPGA giant.
“It's been tough.  Last year I had so many good tournaments and didn't get a win.  This year I played some great golf but had some inconsistencies.  I feel like I am ready to win again, but I've got to do first
things first and get two more solid rounds,” Kerr had said at the end of the first round of Safeway Classic 2012 where she finished tied for the fourth position on the leaderboard.
She went on to say that taking time off in the 2012 season has helped her regain her strength. “You know, I've worked really hard.  I just came back from vacation in Italy, so I feel refreshed a couple weeks
ago.  Didn't play last week.  I feel more relaxed and comfortable and ready to play golf.”
