LPGA to kick off new season with strong players in its roster
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) is going to kick off its 2012 season at the Women's Australian Open this week, at Royal Melbourne.
The players' roster set for the 27 tournaments to be played over the year is stronger than before, as it includes a number of key players.
The LPGA has long been seeking players on its roster, who can attract spectators and media attention.
The 2012 season is going to be special because the field represents golfers from various countries like the United States and Taiwan.
Although the roster is more competitive, there are also players who will be aiming their first ever victories in a bid to grab the spotlight. LPGA said that the participation of experienced players has given added excitement.
According to some observers, young players will be a major source of attraction, as women’s golf needs new names to increase fans’ interest.
For instance, Lexi Thompson is going to be one of the important players in the LPGA events.
Lexi recently made a name for herself after she was declared the youngest winner on the LPGA and LET (Ladies European Tour).
Lexi may not clinch titles in big events but she is fully fit to enter the course, holding her head high. She has shown in the past that she has resilience.
The LPGA officials are confident that the young star will be a hot subject when the season officially begins.
Lexi pointed out that winning the events really boosted her confident in her game and the new season will see her good form.
Talking to media last year, she had said, "Winning definitely gave me a lot more confidence. But like I've said, I go into every event wanting to win, but you know, it's not going to happen every time, so you just gotta take it shot by shot and hope it goes
well".
Yani Tseng is also gearing up to steal the show and will do all it takes to win an event. Currently ranked 1st, the Taiwanese star is famous for her 12 wins on the LPGA.
Tseng shared her plans with her fans, saying she will repeat her magic performance in the current season and maintain the upper hand.
"My goals for this year, of course, I would like to keep improving my status and my physical fitness," she said.
A mixture of experienced players and young blood is likely to attract a substantially large fan-following in the year as it progresses.
