Question:

LS Vtec? What does this mean?

I know the Acura Integra B18a1 motor is non vtec, and it is the same as the RS and GS motor. I always hear the term "LS Vtec". This is an oxymoron, what does it mean? My gues is a normal B18a1 non vtec block mated with any B series Vtec head like a GSR head. Is that what it is? And how well does it work compared to an actual GSR motor? It has the best of both worlds in a way, the low compressioned, turbochargable block of a non vtec LS, and the Vtec power of a b18c head. And with a B18c head, how does it compare with an actual full b18c motor? If I ended up putting a GSR head on my LS block and getting a GSR computer as well, would this be just as good as a real b18c or better? How would it compare in horsepower? What would my new redline be (If I also got the computer from a GSR) just wondering, I got alot of questions and I'm new to building hondas

  1. B16A2(99-00 si) or B18C1(gsr) head with the B18B1(ls) block

    doesnt pass smog though

im not sure if it can be reff either

  2. Consisting mixing a non-vtec ls block with a vtec head in simple terms. Favorable swap by periatsi's because of low cost and power made. The downside durability, they don't last for ****.

  3. vtec means your engine has multiple camshafts. through certain ranges in rpm the camshafts switch in order to let you have maximum fuel efficiency or power. a camshaft lets the fuel and air go into the cylinder at a certain rate and for a certain period of time

    hope this helped

  4. Yes, an LS VTEC is either a B18A/B mated with a VTEC head- usually from a B16A/B or B18C. It works pretty well when built correctly. The key is finding someone who can build these things correctly. Consider this: the displacement on the GSR is 1797cc while the LS is 1834cc. The LS's bigger displacement means more bottom end torque. Generally, LS VTEC are putting out around 170-175 hp at the wheels. That's an amazing feat considering the B18C, GSR engine puts out the similar power but at the crank. Building this engine should be left to the pros since there's more to just swapping a VTEC head than most realize. You have to worry about wiring for the VTEC (and knock sensor-which the LS engine doesn't have) VTEC heads have special guides and don't get me started on tapping and plugging the VTEC oil supply hole. It doesn't just stop there, but it's worth the money to have a pro do it. They learned through trial and error. You don't want to do that on your own ride now do you?
