La Aguada edge past Pilara Piaget in maiden fixture of 2011 Triple Crown – Polo Update
Ignacio Novillo Astrada scored seven times and had an assist, as La Aguada powered a 12-8 victory over Pilara Piaget in the opening match of the Tortugas Country Club Open Championship (Campeonato Abierto del Tortugas Country Club) on September 27 at the
Tortugas Country Club in Argentina.
La Aguada came out to play, as they looked aggressive and ready to go. On the other side, Pilara Piaget has a complete changed squad. The only player who contested the last edition of the Triple Crown with Pilara Piaget, Tomas Garcia del Rio was also replaced
with Garcia Huidobro due to a wrist injury.
The match started with a fast pace with both teams marking back-to-back goals against each other. The pace was reduced with the passage of every chukka, as the final results were 12-8 after the six frames of play. It was a brilliant performance from Novilo
Astrada brothers in the opening match of the season.
The first goal of the Triple Crown was scored in the hands of Javier Novillo Astrada who did it through a penalty conversion and put La Aguada ahead on the scoreboard. However, the players from Pilara were not sitting silently. They carried out back-to-back
attacks and concluded the first round of the match at 3-2. Interestingly, it was the only period that was dominated by Pilara Piaget.
The game further sped up in the second chukka when both teams exchanged plenty of attacks. However, the two teams locked horns at six-all after the two frames of play. In the third set of play, La Aguada showed an impressive game and took the results into
their favour. Nacho scored three unanswered goals while his team-mate Javier added one from the penalty conversion and increased the tally up to 10. The team of Pilara Piaget failed to score any goal in the seven and half minutes of play.
In the second half, the pace of the game slowed down with both teams started to play defensive. Javier Novillo Astrada added a goal in the fourth chukka. In the second last chukka, Bautista Heguy scored a field goal for Pilara. La Aguada was leading the
game with one chukka left to play at 11-7. The two teams exchanged one goal in the last seven minute of play as Javier added another goal from the field which was countered by a penalty conversion in the hands of Garcia Huidobro. However, it was the team of
La Aguada that won the match 12-8. Ignacio Novillo Astrada was the highest scorer of the match with seven notches.
