This article is a continuation of La Liga: A tale of two cities (Part 3).
As it was expected, Los Galacticos were easily able to dominate. Under the management of the veteran tactician, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vicente-c36001 del Bosque, Real Madrid enjoyed the most successful period in their modern history.
The dominance of the Santiago Bernabeu outfit spread all over Europe and they were able to take their total number of European triumphs to 9. The record held by the Spanish giants is still the record for highest number of European trophies won by a single
football club.
As it had been in the past, a break in their hegemony over Spanish and European football came when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 overtook.
Frank Rijkaard inspired his men to put up a challenge against Los Merengues, and one has to point out that they were quite successful.
Not only did the Catalans win two back-to-back trophies in the Spanish La Liga, they also managed to secure a UEFA Champions League trophy. This era of success is also attributed to Brazilian footballer, Ronaldinho, who is arguably one of the best players
of all time.
Another title for Madrid followed by a double by the Nou Camp outfit. However, they did not deem the Liga trophy good enough for the team’s manager to continue.
On the other hand, Pep Guardiola was employed by Barca to lead the team to considerable success. Although the decision was believed to be a huge risk by the Catalan outfit, the risk paid off as the man, who formerly served the club as a defensive midfielder,
proved to be everything the club was in need of.
Remarkably, the newly appointed head coach was able to influence the side to achieve great success during his regime at the Catalan capital. Guardiola’s time at the Spanish giants saw them completely and undisputedly dominate the Spanish La Liga as they
were able to put three trophies under their belt.
In addition to these trophies, La Azulgrana also achieved success in Europe as they managed to win the UEFA Champions League twice in these three years.
Hence, with 14 trophies in 4 seasons at the helm of affairs, the tactician imposed a legacy upon the club’s followers and rivals.
Yet again, Barca’s dominance was brought to a halt as Madrid were able to win yet another title under Jose Mourinho. It was the 32nd La Liga title secured by the Santiago Bernabeu outfit and they have shown once again that they are a completely
unique side in the Iberian Peninsula.
Therefore, we can surmise that the Spanish Primera Division has either been dominated by Los Blancos or La Blaugrana. The highest number of trophies won by one club is 32 which is boasted by the Whites followed by the Catalans who have won the title 21 times.
As the new season approaches, experts wouldn’t dare bet against Barca or Madrid, as they are still the only two football clubs in the country who are expected to win the silverware by the end of the season.
Many believe that it will be only these two teams who will compete against each other for the Spanish La Liga title, with other sides barely competing against one another.
It is certainly easy to observe that the Spanish Primera is indeed a two-horse race and can surely be called a ‘tale of two cities’.
