La Liga News – After World Cup Glory, Barcelona youngster Sergio Busquets eyes UEFA Euro 2012 next
During the 2010 FIFA World Cup, everyone knew that the Spaniards were going to possess the ball more than any other team. The Spanish team completed more passes than any other team has ever done. They outdid each and every team they faced, except Switzerland, who were the first team they faced (and lost 0-1 to) in the group stages of the World Cup.
The Spanish side included 7 of the Barcelona players in the starting line-up, and the youngster Sergio Busquets was one of them. The defensive midfielder was in the starting line-up as the Spanish side advanced and eventually conquered the FIFA World Cup, beating Netherlands 1-0.
Sergio Busquets has shown great form during the season and therefore he was a part of the starting line-up of the Spanish side, even though he is "just a youngster." At such a young age (22), he has the talent to move the ball around with amazing control and even defend the ball throughout the game. With the stats all lined up after the FIFA World Cup, it was revealed that Sergio Busquets had completed a great number of passes. The most passes that have been played by a player are above 600 and Xavi Hernandez, the Spanish midfielder, is the one who achieved that goal. Right behind Xavi was Sergio Busquets, who was able to complete more than 400 passes in the 7 matches that he played for the Spanish side.
Busquets showed the world that he has amazing talent and can move forward and even come back to defend for his team. With great patience built up throughout the game, the Spaniards were able to win the FIFA World Cup 2010 and write their name in the history books for the very first time.
Later on, when Busquets was asked how he felt, he told the press that he did not realize what he and the team had accomplished until he actually landed in Madrid and saw the crowd praising the team for their win in the FIFA World Cup. He said that it was amazing how he had accomplished this World Cup victory, and he wants to continue winning like that. He added by saying that not many players in the world can actually say that they have won the FIFA World Cup, and he is one of the privileged few. He said that this is not the pinnacle of football achievements for him, but just a beginning, and he wants to win the FIFA World Cup at least one more time in his life.
In South Africa, as the FIFA World Cup was taking place, there was one person who exceeded all expectations, and that person was none other than Sergio Busquets. He is only a young player who used to be a part of the third division in Spanish La Liga, but Barcelona saw his talent and polished him to become a fine holding midfielder. He told the press that he feels honoured as he is a part of the World Cup's winning team and also a part of the best football club in Europe, Barcelona.
What is left for him to win? The answer is crystal clear; he was a part of the "all-winning" team of Barcelona in 2009, when they won 6 trophies, and he was also a part of the winning team in South Africa. Now, he definitely wants to win the European Championship that is going to take place in 2012, as he was not a part of the Spanish team back in 2008 (when they won the UEFA European Championship).
Busquets, apart from winning so many trophies, is also happy about the fact that Josep Guardiola is going to coach him this season as well. He told the press that he has great respect for the coach, as he was the one who saw his amazing talent and made him shine like a star. He wished Guardiola the best of luck for his future and told the press that he is honoured that a coach like Pep Guardiola is a part of the club that he is playing for.
Sergio Busquets is definitely an amazing talent, and a player to look forward to in the future. This year around, he is going to face great competition in Spain, as Real Madrid have secured Jose Mourinho to manage them. Can Busquets help his team win another title this season? Let's wait and watch.
