La Liga News: Getafe vs. Barcelona – Lionel Messi’s opener helps Barcelona secure the three points (Part 2)
The visitors capitalized early in the first half when Lionel Messi opened the scoring for his side. The Argentinean maestro showed the football fans all around the globe that why he is known to be one of the best players in the world. Despite an “off day”
for him, he was the best player for the Catalan giants as he scored the first goal to ease the pressure on the team. Xavi Hernandez had an off night as well but Andres Iniesta enjoyed the game to the fullest as he helped the team with his magical dribbles
and also by his superb off the ball movement which was well spotted by Xavi Hernandez and Lionel Messi during the game to help the team make a move forward.
David Villa did a fine job as well – even though he was taken off in the second half. The newly signed Spanish striker helped the team take a two goal lead as he scored the second goal for the Catalan side. The former Valencia man was often criticized for
not finding the back of the net in the Blaugrana jersey but he proved all his critics wrong as he scored a brace against Sevilla in the last game and found the net for Barcelona yet again as he took his tally to five goals while appearing for Barcelona.
The third striker, Pedro Rodriguez did a fine job as well. With a “little” help from the Argentinean maestro Lionel Messi, Pedro found the net to make the score line 0-3 for the visitors as the Getafe defenders fumbled and Lionel Messi was quick enough to
take advantage to pass it to his team mate Pedro. With Pedro being one-on-one with the goalkeeper with a lot of space, there was hardly any room for error and the Spanish striker made no mistake as he planted the ball into the net.
Daniel Alves had a fine day but was not at his best even though he did deliver a few extraordinary crosses into the 18 yard box. However, the Brazilian full back Maxwell had a great night as he combined well with the team and came back to help the team defend
as well. His one touch passing was superb and the Brazilian was simply phenomenal as he featured on the left flank.
The surprise package of the night for the Catalan giants was the newly signed Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano. The Argentinean captain showed the fans that he wasn’t a useless signing after all as he replaced Sergio Busquets in the starting line up.
The Argentinean was definitely one of the best players for Barcelona during the match. While being in the holding midfield position, Mascherano did the job perfectly. The Argentinean did not let anyone pass through him and perfectly tackled almost anyone who
came in his way.
Many said that he was finding it hard to adapt Barcelona’s style of play and it was “just not his type,” but it was seen that he worked hard and was simply perfect while performing for the Spanish Champions. He did not only tackle the ball well, he also
passed it on by giving it a few touches just like the Catalan giants love it.
