La Liga News: Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says he is not Harry Potter
Real Madrid’s new manager Jose Mourinho has said that the fans should not expect miracles from him this season. The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ said that all he has is managerial ability and not magic.
The first match of the new season for Real Madrid ended in a goal-less draw against Real Mallorca. The result was definitely a disappointment considering the hype that surrounds Madrid’s new regime under Mourinho.
However, ‘The Special One’ said that his new team should be given time to adjust to the new playing style and results would come in due time.
Jose, in his typical dramatic manner, said, ‘I am just a coach not Harry Potter’. He said that at times football is magical if played the right way, but football is real while magic is fiction.
He said that he has been in Madrid for two months, and has had around 40 training sessions with the team. However, he said that since the new players arrived, he has only been able to hold 10 sessions, so clearly they need time to gel and get along with the other players.
Jose said that the new recruits are still trying to feel their way into the team, and it does take time to adapt to a certain style of football.
The former Chelsea manager said that it is very easy not to change much, and tell the team to keep playing the way they did last season. He added that that would not bring the desired results in the long run, however, and to get what the team wants to achieve, the team needs to be given proper time.
He said that short-term success could have been easy, but he does not want to mislead the fans and wants to get them long-term success.
While reflecting on the 0-0 draw in the first match, Jose said that he is not much bothered by the result in the first game. He added that early matches in the season often turn out to be quite strange. Mourinho said that if one looks around Europe, Juventus drew, Inter Milan also got one point, Bayern Munich lost, and finally, Manchester United also managed a 2-2 draw the same weekend.
However, he said that he is not a superstitious man, but for the ones who are interested in those things, they should know that his first seasons at Inter Milan and Porto also started with draws.
He said that during his time at Porto he won 4 titles, and later at Chelsea, he also won back-to-back titles and if that is not enough, at Inter Milan he said that the first season brought the league title and the next one got Inter’s name in history with a treble. Therefore, there is a need to be patient here and give him and his team time.
Jose said that winning the first game is never an assurance that a team would win the season, and neither is a loss or a draw an indication of a team not being able to win the season.
The new signings made by Mourinho at Madrid, Mesut Ozil and Sami Khedira, were not part of the starting eleven at Mallorca. The manager said that he wanted his German duo to get the feel of the league before he threw them in action.
Jose went on to say that his team has players from different parts of the world, so getting the word across is also not the easiest of tasks. He said he is trying to work out a system where all the players in squad would be on the same page.
