La Liga: Pelligrini compares Madrid to a dysfunctional orchestra

The ex-Real Madrid manager has slammed the way Real Madrid’s system has worked over the past few years. He heavily criticized Madrid’s club President Florentino Perez and his transfer policy. Pelligrini was in-charge at Madrid for only a single season, during which they pushed their rivals Barcelona all the way to the title.
Real Madrid have a long history of parting ways with managers in certain unceremonious ways. Even after certain managers have won them the prestigious La Liga title, Madridista’s have still criticized their approach to the game.
The latest manager to get the Real Madrid treatment was Manuel Pelligrini, who was fired to make way for Real Madrid’s supposed savior, Jose Mourinho. Pelligrini was only given a season to win the UEFA Champions League along with the La Liga with a newly “bought” squad of players which included footballers such as Alonso, Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema.
Pelligrini’s appointment at Real Madrid in the summer of 2009 was accompanied by 250 million Euros worth of transfer additions. The biggest addition to the squad came in the shape of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Ronaldo’s transfer fee amounted to 80 million pounds, a new transfer fee record which still stands today.
Before becoming Real Madrid’s manager, Pelligrini managed Villarreal. Pelligrini till date, is the most successful Real Madrid manager in terms of win percentage. Under his management, Real Madrid played a total number of 48 games out of which they only drew 5 games and lost 7, this record means that Pelligrini won 75 percent of his games as a Real Madrid manager. Pelligrini’s record surpasses all previous Madrid managers in terms of winning percentage.
Pelligrini has now been replaced at Real Madrid by Jose Mourinho, who is a self acclaimed “special” manager. Mourinho has coached Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan in the past and now has been tasked with taking Real Madrid to glory. Mourinho’s win with Inter Milan in last season’s UEFA Champions League semi-finals cemented him as the prime candidate to take at the helm of affairs at Real Madrid.
Recently, Pelligrini told the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, that Real Madrid only bought the superstars but not the players they needed to fill in the weak positions in their squad. He said that, it is not of any use if an orchestra has ten-guitar players but not one pianist. He also said that, if those guitarists are asked to play the piano, they won’t be able to do it well enough. He added by stating that, Florentino Perez sold the players that were required by him, he went onto say that there was a difference of opinion in matters of building the squad between him and Real Madrid’s president Perez.
He went onto say that; Real Madrid didn’t win the Champions League because they didn’t have a properly structured squad to win the competition. He said that, even if he had won the league he would have been booted out of the club because Mourinho was being lined up to take his job. He concluded by saying that, he didn’t even have a voice or a vote to express is opinion at the club.
