La Liga: Team of the season – Best of the rest (Part 2)
After picking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andoni-Iraola-c5593 as the first three members of the best of the rest La Liga team of the season, it is now time to shed some light on the rest of footballers that make up this team in question...
Nunes (Centre Back)
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 last season. Playing in a team which had revamped itself in the summer transfer window previously, Nunes did ever so well at the
start of the season when Mallorca were in danger of getting relegated near the end of the season.
The Portuguese centre back who is 34 years old is a rare commodity in Spanish football. As a defender he is cool and calculated in his tackles, he seldom dives in to give a foul away and at 34 he is still as fast as your next youthful
wing back. Nunes make this best of the rest team for his outstanding displays for Mallorca in the 2010-2011 season after joining the club from Braga in the Portuguese first division.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631 (Left back)
When one talks about the best of the rest, Joan Capdevila’s name shines up in the spotlight as one of the most consistent performers at the left back position in the Spanish Primera Division. Everyone thought that Capdevila’s last
hurrah came at the FIFA 2010 World Cup with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 when the La Furia Roja marched onto win their first World Cup final ever. Critics claimed that the Villarreal veteran defender would not make it through the season without one major injury as he had constantly
played throughout the summer with the Spanish national team in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
However the 33 year old wing back has not showed any signs of fatigue as he along with his team mates finished 4th in the La Liga season and also made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League. Next season will be yet
another season of UEFA Champions League football for Villarreal largely due to Capdevila’s experienced presence at the left back spot for the Yellow Submariners.
Xabi Prieto (Right Midfield)
Fourth in the league when it comes to assists contributed in the Spanish Primera Division, Xabi Prieto played for Real Sociedad and caught attention of Spanish fans through his wonder exhibition of passing and guile. Xabi seems
to be almost like a central midfielder playing out wide as his critics have blamed him for his lack of pace.
However the Spanish national is now making a case for his place in the Spanish national team squad with 12 assists and 7 goals for Sociedad in the 2010-2011 season. Not only that, Xabi is seen as one of the good guys in Spanish
football. After Real Sociedad were relegated to the second division of Spanish football last season, Xabi stuck with his team and brought them back up to the La Liga with incredible displays. One of the few footballers who are faithful to their cause in the
modern game, Xabi gains a place on this team due to his assist tally.
