La Liga: Team of the season – Best of the rest (Part 3)
After elaborating upon the inclusion of Xabi Prieto, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631, it is now time to expand on the rest of the best of the rest XI with regard to La Liga...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Borja-Valero-c7889 (Central midfield)
Villarreal’s engine man, the nuclear fuel of the yellow submarine campaign throughout the La Liga 2010-2011 season. Valero was impervious in his midfield role as he reintroduced the concept of box to box play in the Spanish Primera division where top sides basically opt for specialized midfielders in shape of playmakers or defensive enforcers rather than footballers who can do both the jobs.
Valero’s form saw Villarreal progress towards the Europa League semi-final where they lost out to Porto in the end. Domestically, the yellow submariners benefitted vastly from Valero’s extensive passing range as they finished 4th in order to compete in the UEFA Champions League qualification stages. In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747, Valero assisted eight and scored three goals last season which is a hefty tally for anyone playing outside of the big two in La Liga.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gabi-c14252 Fernandez(Central midfield)
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Zaragoza-c40344’s midfield man was their main driving force and their rescue man in the 2010-2011 season. After the January break, it looked as if Zaragoza were destined to go down and that is when Gabi stepped up to the plate and starting performing like there was no tomorrow. The central midfielder carried his team to a 14th placed finish in the end in Spanish Primera Division but it was his never say die policy that impressed throughout.
He committed rash challenges but all in the name of his team, something that is exhibited by his tally of 14 yellow cards at the end of the season. In total, Gabi scored 10 goals and assisted six assists which totally justified his place in the Zaragoza team as the club’s leader both on and off the pitch. Zaragoza must hold onto Gabi, if they intend to maintain a permanent presence in Spanish football’s top division.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santi-Cazorla-c32505 (Left midfield)
Villarreal’s left winger was devastated when he missed out on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011’s FIFA 2010 World Cup squad. He sat back home and watched them win the World Cup in style. The main reason for Cazorla’s omission from the final cut was that most of his 2009-2010 Spanish Primera Division season was plagued with a back injury. However in the 2010-2011 season, the short yet speedy winger came back with a bang. Having a virtually injury less season, Cazorla was the main driving force in Villarreal’s season.
The man who is held in high esteem by Xavi Hernandez at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nilmar-c28044 and Valero might’ve made it easier for Cazorla but same can be said of the players who played alongside him. After his impressive display in the 2010-2011 season, several European club sides are after the services of the small Spanish winger. Villarreal are trying their best to hold onto him, which they should considering he is their present and their future.
