La Liga: The top impact signings
The transfer window has been in full bloom. With the transfer season drawing to a close in a month, all teams have sped up their pursuit of landing the players they feel would help their squad do better and help them go much further. Here is a look at some of the best signings that have taken place in the Spanish La Liga so far.
Real Madrid’s biggest setback over the past has been their defence. When Jose Mourinho came in to take over as the new manager of the club earlier this season, he identified this problem straight away. He brought in reinforcements for almost every position, but the one position that he was lacking recruitments in was the defensive region of the team. Mourinho knew right away who the right player would be to play in his squad. He looked no further than his former player, Ricardo Carvalho. Carvalho had previously played for Mourinho when he was in charge of Chelsea and before that he had played for the manager when he was in charge of Porto.
This proves that Mourinho is well aware of how Carvalho plays. He felt that he would be the perfect player to come into the Madrid line up and help them launch a successful title challenge the coming season.
Carvalho was sold for a mere eight million Euros that seems to be a bargain for a player of his calibre. However Carvalho will be pairing up with his Portuguese team mate Pepe in the Madrid back four which means that he wouldn’t require time to form a connection with his defensive partner. Carvalho could prove to be the difference maker this season for Real Madrid.
Barcelona made one of the most impactful signings of the summer. They didn’t even wait for the transfer window to progress before signing David Villa. They saw that Valencia were in dire need of money so they made an offer that the team couldn’t refuse.
Villa could prove to be one of the smartest signings that the club has made to date. He will be going into the new season after winning a World Cup with Spain and will be high on confidence. He was one of the stand out performers for Spain and managed to score most of the goals that the team scored.
He will be the ideal player to replace Henry down the left flank at the Camp Nou and he would also be able to play as an all out striker if required. If he manages to combine well with the likes of Messi, then Barcelona could easily be on their way to breaking the all time goal scored record.
Another player that was signed by Real Madrid is, Sergio Canales. Canales was bought from Racing Santander for a fee of around four and a half million Euros. Mourinho has had no complaints from the player during the pre season. He even had a choice of loaning the player back to his former team so he could develop, however he said the player has already developed enough and would be the perfect player to replace the injured Kaka.
Canales has been compared to Madrid legend Guti on numerous occasions and he would want to live up to those expectations. He is still only nineteen years old which means that Madrid could have another long term super star in the making just like their former captain, Raul. It is still unclear whether or not he would prove to be as good as everyone expects but so far all the signs are pointing in the right direction.
