La Liga Update: Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo insists that he isn’t obsessed with scoring goals
Real Madrid forward and Portuguese captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 has gone on to equal the all time goal scoring record (Pichichi record), after having scored 38 goals in a single season in the La Liga. The player’s double against Villarreal this past Sunday saw him match that record, only for the forward to come forth and claim that he was not obsessed with scoring goals.
Ronaldo went on to score two brilliant goals from near identical free-kicks in the game against the Yellow Submarine. First the player found the back of the net on the 22nd minute of the match and he then went on to score a second in injury time of the match. In doing so, the player also helped Madrid secure a comfortable three goals to one win over Villarreal.
Having scored his 38th goal in the game, the striker has become the first striker to match the record set by Telmo Zarra in the 1950 – 1951 season and then by Hugo Sanchez in the 1989 – 1990 season.
The player then went on to express his satisfaction for having become part of Spanish football history and also stated that he would try and find the back of the net against Almeria this coming weekend. Should the player manage to do just that, then he would go on to set a new goal scoring record, which by all means would take something quite special to beat in the future.
The 26 year old forward is quoted to have said: "I am very happy about equalling Zarra and Hugo Sanchez's record. The truth is I didn't expect to score so many goals this year and I feel honoured to reach two legends like Zarra and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hugo-c16384 Sanchez.”
Ronaldo then tried to take the humble route and went on to acknowledge the teams effort in making the season what it has been for the player.
“What really matters is that we earned a great victory at a complicated venue. All of us, coach and players alike, want to have a good end to the season, and we're accomplishing this so far.”
However, it wasn’t long before the strikers cheeky side kicked in and he went on to state that he would like to score against Almeria, but at the same time emphasising he was not obsessed with scoring goals by any means.
"I would like to score even more goals against Almeria, but I'm not obsessed about it. I've tried to score from set pieces many times this year, but had been unlucky until now.”
Irrelevant of how the Portuguese sensation wants to look at things, what he has done with Madrid is quite simply outstanding. At the moment his tally of goals scored has surpassed the 50 mark and should he keep this act up, he might just be able to go one up on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, who is currently sitting on 52 goals for the season.
