La Liga Wrap
This season’s Spanish Premiera Liga started with Real Madrid again opening up their cheque books to assemble yet another multi-million pound squad to challenge Barcelona for the league title.
Madrid brought in Jose Mourinho from Internazionale Milan to the Santiago Barnabeau in order to challenge their Catalunyan rivals for the title and it seems that the decision is paying instant dividends.
The La Liga season is only 4 games old and Madrid are already at the top of the perch. In the four matches that they have played, Real Madrid haven’t conceded even a single goal. This fact alone is a glaring testament to the tactical nous of Mourinho, who
is famous for building his success on the base of his defense.
Real’s defense is so far working at its best as no team in the Premiera Liga has been able to break down the Los Blancos rare guard and the foundations have been laid for the assault on the Blaugaranas.
Madrid climbed to the summit of the La Liga last night as they defeated Espanyol in an action packed encounter at the Santiago Barnabeau.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for hosts from the penalty spot in the 28th minute as the hosts went into the breather with a slender one goal lead.
Ernesto Galan equalized for the visitors in the 63rd minute and then in just last 10 minutes 3 more goals were scored. Higian doubled the score in the 78th minute while 9 minutes later, Karim Benzema also added to the score line to
all but secure three points for the hosts.
Pepe was sent off for a malicious tackle in the 60th minute while the visitors had two men sent off in the match.
Meanwhile, Ossasuna registered their first win of the season in the Premier League as they strolled home to a comfortable 3-1 victory over the newly promoted side, Real Sociedad.
Raul Tamudo scored for the visitors in the 16th minute but two late goals at the end of the first half saw Ossasuna break their scoring duck for the season.
Pandiani and JCamunas both scored from close range in a space of five minutes right before half time to make sure that their team went into half time with a 1 goal lead.
Carlos Aranda scored in the 75th minute to make it 3-1 and also to make sure that Osssuna got their first three points of the season.
Moreover, Ferdando Llorente’s Athletic Bilbao secured their second win of the season as they climbed to 4th spot in the league table with a comfortable 3-0 win over Real Mallorca.
David Lopez opened the scoring on the night with a fluke goal as he slipped crossing the ball into the box. The miss-hit cross looped over the goalie into the far top corner to give his side an early lead.
Later in the second half, goals from Mikel San Jose and Inigo Perez secured an easy win for Bilbao.
While in some other news, Atletico Madrid’s defender and skipper, Thomas Ujfalusi, has been banned for two matches following his tackle on Lionel Messi against Barcelona on Saturday when his tackle saw Messi tore his ankle ligaments and was stretchered off
the pitch.
Messi is set to miss two weeks of action in the La Liga as a result of the injury. He was in tears as he left the pitch but initial fears of a serious injury were wiped off when the scans revealed that the twinkle-toed Argentinean had only suffered minor
ligaments damage and no fractures.
