A total of 13 top flight clubs have combined together to question irregularities in operations of the football board, especially in the distribution of television monies.
Following the player’s strike that caused a delay in Spanish Primera Division’s start, a similar strike but at a bigger scale is heading towards the league schedule. Owed television rights by operators and a disparity in distribution of revenues from coverage
is at the heart of the debate.
Thirteen La Liga clubs signed a statement on Tuesday after their meeting in Madrid, in which they have threatened to strike and cause a delay in the start of La Liga unless they are paid the outstanding television monies by operators and to reach a solution
that is ‘acceptable’ for most top tier clubs regarding televisions monies.
The main concern of the rebellion is to bring into order, the almost half of the TV rights being enjoyed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and Real Madrid.
In the statement, the thirteen 'rebels' demanded an immediate payment of all amounts due by television operators to the clubs by Primera Division’s administrators and the withdrawal of all claims in relation to contracts over media rights sales.
On the other hand, they have also called for a procedure to determine ‘transparent’ and ‘regulating’ the fixing of match schedules of the highest calibre. It stated that adoption of such measures are ‘necessary’ and also require that TV operators establish
‘stable’ and ‘peaceful’ working conditions regarding television rights.
The thirteen signatories are - Athletic Bilbao, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Celta Vigo, Espanyol, Getafe, Granada, Mallorca, Osasuna, Rayo Vallecano, Real Sociedad, Sevilla and Zaragoza. They have requested an urgent meeting on Tuesday August 14 of top
tier Spanish club.
It was revealed that they will discuss and vote, if appropriate, to approve the points put forward by the signatories of the statement.
If demands of the ‘rebels’ are met, they have threatened to go on strike and delay the onset of the La Liga season, which has been scheduled to start from Aug. 18.
In order to avoid problems, the special session will be held to make sure that all parties are on the same page and have a solution that is acceptable for most in not all of the concerned stakeholders.
