The 13 Spanish top flight clubs came to the conclusion that hindering the start of the 2012/13 Primera Division season will not be in their best interests at the moment but refused to call off its possibility entirely.
La Liga will start at the stipulated time as decided by LFP beforehand. It was announced that there will be no strike in the first game of the season as the Assembly of the League of Professional Football saw all parties coming to the conclusion about the
planned schedules.
The assembly of the Spanish top tier football clubs lasted 14 hours as the 'rebels' clubs debated with the rest of their fellows about their respites. It has been stated that further meetings will be held to resolve their differences between the clubs and
arriving at a peaceful solution that is in the best interest of all stakeholders.
"We have been for quite some time talking about important issues. We put on the table the issues at hand. We have discussed the issues of the League itself, governance and television broadcasts. There will be games this weekend week will be held on schedule,"
Jose Luis Astiazaran said, the president of the Professional Football League (LFP).
The presence of Cardenal Miguel, Secretary of State for Sport, was a calming down influence, showing that the government does not want to tarnish the image of the country and the sport with a repeat strike delaying the start of the sporting season.
Cardenal considered the meeting very positive, with Enrique Cerezo echoing the sentiments shown by the government executive. He stated that it is the starting of a new relationship, and they have their fingers crossed to see what gains it can bring to the
group.
"It is the beginning of a beautiful friendship," the Atletico president said. "This is the beginning of a good relationship and let’s see what happens. I think it was a pretty good meeting, we have been blessed with the presence of Secretary of State for
Sport, which has understood and grasped the situation in the league. We are thirteen or fourteen First Division teams that we are united and go forward until we get what we ask, "
All first division clubs, including Sevilla, finally adopted the proposals of League of Professional Football, with five other clubs delegating their authority. Deportivo delegated their right to Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Malaga, and Valladolid delegated
to Osasuna.
