La Liga title chase has become more difficult: Jose Mourinho
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho refused to blame his players for their 1-0 shock loss to Osasuna but admitted that the chase for the La Liga title has become much more difficult for him.
A solo goal from Javier Camunas in the second half was the only thing that stood between the two sides. It was an evenly balanced match otherwise but after what was Madrid’s second loss of the 2010-11 season, Mourinho believes that the title race is beyond
them.
The loss takes Real Madrid 7 points behind leaders Barcelona, who are on the verge of setting a new record by winning their last 15 La Liga fixtures consecutively.
For now, it seems that the La Liga title would stay put at Camp Nou, as the loss may have denied Madrid the taste of silverware, a trophy that has been elusive to them since 2008.
“My players have done their jobs with dignity and I have nothing to reproach them for, they fought to the end. We lost three points that we didn't deserve to lose. Osasuna are a tough team and the crowd was fantastic,” stated the manager in support of his
players.
Mourinho stated he had no complaints by the energy put in by the Los Blancos in the game. The manager hailed the home side’s mentality and claimed that the one-week rest for Osasuna was the major factor for their performance.
“I don't think many teams win here. We had opportunities to score in both halves, but we haven't done it. And if the opponents score first it is very difficult. Congratulations to Osasuna,” added the Portuguese.
Things are not looking good for Madrid, as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Almeria in the last away game but Mourinho looked forward to playing Sevilla in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey semi-final.
The Copa Del Rey has been elusive to them for nearly 17 years now and Mourinho looks to end that come Wednesday.
There are a lot of tensions between manager Jose Mourinho and the Real Madrid management, as the coach has been linked to a return to the Premier League. In his own words, Mourinho stated that he may well return to the League soon.
Whatever may be the case, Madrid might have to settle for the second place and look to win other competitions, including the UEFA Champions League and Copa Del Rey.
