The FIGC Vice-President has been extremely critical of the Italian clubs for not giving the Italian players more time for the national camps ahead of Euro 2012.
The Azzurri had a great Euro 2012, even if the score line of the final flattered the Spaniards, who won with a resounding 4-0 victory. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 were not considered the favourites to reach the finals of the tournament but they proved their doubters wrong as
they won against tough oppositions en route to the finals.
The Italians overcame the English threat with victory coming through penalties. It was a deserved victory as the Azzurri dominated match proceedings throughout the tournament. They defeated the tournament favourites, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904, with a commanding display in
Krakow.
They seemed too tired and drained out when they were playing against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in Kiev. Demetrio Albertini went on to state that tiredness crept into the Italian team as they did not have enough time to recover from the game against the Germans.
He further went on to state that the only way they could have made up for the rest would have been to make wholesale changes to the squad for the final. That would have decreased the relative strength of the team. Albertini was full of praise for the Spanish
team, and applauded them for the perfect game they played and commented:
“This second place makes us all proud of the lads. Spain played the perfect game in the opening half-hour, we lost http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giorgio-Chiellini-c14963 straight away and it was evident Italy were tired against the world’s best team.”
Albertini stated that the Italian team achieved something beautiful in the manner that they were able to unite the nation, and have them singing and dancing in the streets. He also lauded them on their performances throughout the tournament, stating that
they played great football through the course of the group and qualifying stages.
He lamented the decision of the clubs not to be supportive of the national team before the start of the tournament, and they joined the bandwagon when la Nazionale performed well. Albertini remarked:
“After all, international tournaments can give more value and experience to players, more so than the Champions League, so clubs ought to be more supportive.”
Before the tournament started, Cesare Prandelli was critical of the clubs for the same reason.
