La Sombre aiming high in an optional claimer at Hollywood Park
The California bred 4-year-old filly La Sombre, will be among other California bred fillies in a six furlong turf sprint and it will be held at Hollywood Park on 1 December, 2011. The sprint will be the feature race of Hollywood Park on that day.
Brian Koriner trained filly has been finishing on the board consistently while attempting to break her maiden. Started from Del Mar, La Sombre made her debut in a six furlong sprint on 20 August, 2010, but couldn’t break her maiden as she finished second
to Come Home Lady.
Next stop Hollywood, as La Sombre switched from dirt to turf at Hollywood Park and ran in another six furlong sprint under Martin Garcia, but the result was the same, finishing second in her second try to winner My Hopeful Heart.
Back to Del Mar, La Sombre again finished second in a six furlong dash over the synthetic surface, but this time Brian Koriner saw something different and kept her on synthetic surface for her next attempt.
Going for her maiden special weight race for the fourth time, La Sombre, started over Del Mar’s synthetic surface and struck gold, as she won the race quiet convincingly defeating Miss Speed Dating in second and Clean Break in third while she topped the
six and a half furlong distance in 1 minute and 17.15 seconds.
A Venneri Racing and Eagle Oak Ranch owned daughter of Unusual Heat, out of mare Wallis of Windsor by Wavering Monarch, La Sombre is coming off yet again a second place finish in an allowance race over at Santa Anita Park’s dirt surface to winner Tiz Flirtatious.
Though La Sombre has gone on to finish second far more often than she has won, but she has been performing consistently and she has an advantage over the rest of the fillies in the Hollywood Park feature sprint with an inside draw.
The last time La Sombre was at Hollywood Park, she finished second against open maidens in a turf sprint. Though the open allowance race is on dirt but that maiden special weight race seems most germane in regards to 1 December race.
