Talking about politics is not common for footballers. Yet, many French Ligue 1 players have been angered by Socialist Party leader Francois Hollande who has proposed 75% increase in taxes for people earning above one million Euros
Rarely has a political measure caused so much strife in the footballing world.
Francois Holland of the Socialist Party is the leading candidate for the presidential election. The politician certainly did not make any friends in Ligue 1 when he threw a bombshell on Monday by proposing an increase of tax to 75 % for any amount exceeding
1 million Euros annually.
According to the Socialist party, this proposal is intended to restore the fiscal justice in harsh financial circumstances.
However, despite this, feelings of anger have generated from many footballers in Ligue 1 who will be affected by this measure if it is implemented.
Paris Saint-Germain man, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christophe-Jallet-c9179 is among those players who are worried by this. The Frenchman reckons that this proposal would never be welcomed as it will mean that players would once again go back to a time when they worked too much for not
much.
Rolland Courbis, who is a broadcaster at RMC, gives a more clear reading of this proposal. According to Courbis, the measure would see Ligue 1 lose some of its best players as they will consider leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 when a club comes calling.
“If we lose the best 25 players in our league, you know that can do damage to the TV rights. If I was a footballer and I had talent, I wish someone would tax me but I have the same advantages when my http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 ends. At 33, life begins and it is too complicated
for footballers.”
Former France international Vikash Dhorasoo says that he doesn’t really care about what footballers will do if the proposal is accepted as he feels that players who are not footballers are already having a hard time in the current circumstances.
The proposal is certainly a big one and could prove to be the downfall of Ligue 1 that has only recently started stamping its authority in European football.
