LaMarcus Aldridge scores 26 as Portland Trail Blazers down Minnesota Timberwolves 119-106: NBA Recap
LaMarcus Aldridge hammered 26 points and hauled down 9 rebounds to lead the Portland Trail Blazers past the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night at the Rose Garden in Portland.
Portland, who have been in spectacular form lately, had six players in double figures on the night as they gave the Wolves their 9th loss in the last 13 games. The key to winning this game was Portland’s impressive shooting
from the field as they shot an amazing 52.3 %. They also did very well from the free throw line on the night, connecting on 18-of-20.
The Trail Blazers started the game by coming out of the blocks early, but despite being short handed, the Wolves did not give the fight up, well at least in the early stages of the game.
Portland managed to get an early lead only to lose their advantage as the scores were all tied up at the end of the first period. Kevin Love led the Wolves with 10 points while on the other end; the Blazers were having an overall
shooting performance from nearly every one.
The second quarter started off with both teams going neck to neck. The action went along in similar fashion till there were a few minutes remaining in the half. Minnesota`s short handedness was starting to show as they were unable
to contain the Portland offence. With 2 minutes remaining in the half, Portland was able to extend a 3 point advantage to 7 points, 57-50, as the first half came to a close.
LaMarcus Aldridge had 14 points for the Trail Blazers, while Kevin Love had 18 points for the Wolves after two quarters of playing time.
Minnesota started the second half well. With Derrick Williams leading their cause they were able to cut the lead down. But on the night they were only able to get to within 4 points of the Blazers.
Late in the third quarter as the lead was being cut down by the visitors, Portland decided they have had enough of it. They started making shots on a regular basis to put an end to the Wolves come back and closed the third quarter
out 8 points ahead of the visitors, 88-80.
There was no looking back from the Blazers point of view. From then onwards they went on to dominate the visiting side. Blazers had 9-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter to lay rest of any kind of chances the Wolves had of
making a comeback.
With an all around impressive shooting performance on the night, Blazers were able to end the game with a score line of 119-106.
Aldridge had 26, Nicolas Batum had 24 point on the night while Love had 26 and Williams had 21 for the Wolves.
