LaMarcus Aldridge shines as Portland Trail Blazers decimate Phoenix Suns 109 – 71 – NBA Recap
The Portland Trail Blazers might not have the best record in the NBA right now, but the team is showing very dangerous signs indeed. They just recently ended a 7 game winning streak of the Memphis Grizzlies and tonight simply destroyed the Phoenix Suns.
The meeting between the Suns and the Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden turned out to be a brutal affair. Portland dominated the game from start to finish and showed no mercy to the Suns, handing out a savage 109 – 71 defeat.
LaMarcus Aldridge was once again a shining light for the home side, with his 23 points and 7 rebounds. Aldridge though had plenty of help as a number of Portland players found their groove.
Centre Marcus Camby has been a powerhouse rebounder this season and he was at it again, gobbling down an impressive 20 boards in the game. Forward Gerald Wallace was impressive and scored 17 points while Wesley Matthews had 16. Jamal Crawford came off the
bench and almost clinched a double-double with 10 assists and 9 points.
In comparison, the Suns looked very ordinary indeed. As a testament to their poor performance, the highest point's tally of any player was 12, scored by Grant Hill. Even the super star Steve Nash looked hapless on the court, scoring just 5 points and dishing
7 assists on the night.
The start of the game though didn’t give much indication to how it would eventually turn out. The Suns went toe to toe with the Trail Blazers in the first quarter and matched pretty much all the home side had to offer. In fact, when the first period ended,
the Suns were ahead at 24 – 21.
The second period though changed everything. The Trail Blazers started off with a blazing 13 – 2 run that put them firmly in command. They continued to pour on the points and ended the first half on top at 47 – 33.
Portland looked even more dangerous coming out of the break and used a 9 – 0 burst at the start to quell any hopes Phoenix might have had of making a comeback. They scored outscored the Suns by an incredible 31 – 12 margin in the third quarter to enter the
final period ahead by a massive 33 points, 78 – 45.
The 4th was therefore just a formality and the Suns were grateful to get off the court when the clock ran out, final score 109 – 71.
