Labarinto making a comeback at Newbury through the Berry Bros & Rudd Magnum Spring Cup (Handicap) on 21st April
The Class 2 Berry Bros & Rudd Magnum Spring Cup (Handicap) will be held at Newbury over a mile on Saturday, 21st April. The race will get contested by twenty-three four-year and older runners for the £24,900 purse.
Only a few among the line-up have raced at Newbury and none have been able to strike a victory there till yet.
Labarinto, Dansili’s four-year-old bay colt out of mare, Tarocchi, has raced at Newbury twice during the previous season.
On 14th May, he was the part of the line-up for the Totesport.Com London Gold Cup (Handicap) over a mile and two furlongs. The race was won by Al Kazeem who was riding with Steve Drowne and the two led the runner up, Labarinto, by 1 ¼ lengths.
The runner up was ridden by Ryan Moore.
The 13/8 favourite of the race, Dominant, ended fifth on the track of eight.
His seasonal victory was in the Betfred The Bonus King Stakes (Handicap) on 28th July 2011 over a mile two furlongs. The 4/1 favourite made the most out of the partnership with Ryan Moore as they led the runner up of the race, Chain Lightning,
by just ¾ of a length.
The victory did not come easy but Labarinto was in no mood to let go off the chance. Swift Alhaarth finished third behind the winner.
His second attempt at Newbury was on 17th September 2011 in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap over a mile and two furlongs.
This time the four-year-old ended a dreadful fifteenth on the track of nineteen. Being entered as the 7/2 favorite did not come handy the least bit. The race was won by Taqleed who was ridden by Tadhg O’Shea, the two snatched the victory from Naqshabban
who was reeling in for the wire just at a neck’s distance.
Labarinto will begin his 2012 campaign today. His final race of the previous season was at Newbury and he is to spark off the season from the same race course. Today will mark his third career try at Newbury and if he has the potential of scoring a second
once, then with some extra effort he will not be far from the finish line before the rest start crossing it.
