Label Requirements? Restaurants vs Packaged foods?

How come restaurants aren't bound to the same laws that packaged foods are in terms of nutrition and ingredient labels?

When you go to McDonalds or The Olive Garden do they give you a sheet of paper or list telling you what ingredients are in the food you're eating? NO Do they break down the nutritional value? NO

  1. Packaged foods are required to label their products by the FDA. The FDA has no control over restaurants so they aren't required to label their food.


  2. yes McD's does do that, its on the back of the placemat on the tray and restaurants might not tell you the details, but they can tell you the ingredients, when asked.  and you can ask to have it prepared a specific way
