Labour Talks to resume between League, Players' Association Tuesday -NHL Update
After a day to go over what both stakeholders managed to achieve during their three-day long negotiation run on a new collective bargaining agreement, the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association is set to meet again on Tuesday, October 2, 2012.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday were the three days that both sides met for the first time since a deadlock that lasted more than two weeks after the previous labour deal came to an end on September 15th, and had fans thinking that they might not ever
meet again. Luckily, due to under the radar contact with each other, authoritative figures from both sides managed to work out a deal to continue talking to save the upcoming 2012-2013 regular season.
At the moment, the key issues that have held back a new labour deal at the moment still went without being discussed, but at least they managed to cover the minor factors that will now allow for a more detailed meeting on Tuesday.
The NHL confirmed rumours of their being talks set after a day of rest and will be held in New York according to ESPN.com.
"I think that may show or demonstrate more than anything else the nature of the issues we're talking about," NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said. "We're really talking about micro issues, issues that we deal with on a day-to-day basis that don't necessarily
rise to the Commissioner's level or the executive director's level. They will be at the table when we're talking about the issues that are really going to get this deal done or not."
There is no confirmation as of yet what the set agenda for the talks are, but it is expected that they will continue from where they left off on Sunday and hope to work their way to the core issues.
Economic issues are holding back both sides from finalising a deal at the moment and has them deadlocked on factors like player share in team revenue and decreases salaries along with arbitration overall. The league is looking for more authority, making
the upcoming days intense as the regular season is also getting closer day-by-day.
