Labret piercing help?

I'm getting my labret piercing on a tuesday and going to see my boyfriend the following tuesday. i keep reading everywhere that you aren't supposed to kiss, can it do any massive damage? let me know please! ASAP!

I had mine pierced about 5 years ago. It really really hurts, so I'm not totally convinced you'd want to kiss, but I don't think it will cause too many problems.

They also advise that you do not drink alcohol, but I did the day i got mine pierced and it got really really swollen. i had fish lips!

If you aren't deterred by the possibility of fish lips, then by all means kiss! Not too vigourously though!

I didn't have any problems due to kissing after getting my piercing. However, I did have some of the enamel worn off of my bottom, middle 2 teeth because of the flat back of the labret stud. I noticed that, then took the jewelry out. It left a pretty big scar that is very noticeable. So before you get that particular piercing, I suggest you consider those 2 negative effects of the labret piercing.

It is less a matter of damaging the piercing and more a matter of the possibility of infection.

Don't mess with your health.  Please wait until the piercing heals before you lay any big ole' makeout kisses on your boyfriend.

The possibility of infection exists and that going untreated can lead down a bad road.  However, if you keep it cleaned properly before and after you should be fine.  The type of tissue inside your mouth heels very quickly and it is very rare to develop an infection because the mouth contains an enzyme "Ptyalin" which inhibits bacteria.(think of when you accidently bite your lip, usually the sore is gone in a few days tops.)  The outside will take a little longer to heal, but the labret heals fairly quickly.  Follow the direstions your piercer should have provided to you and you should be fine.
