Lacey Locke earns Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day two – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Lacey Locke of Carmel Swim Club earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on day two of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Saturday, June 9.
The 17-year-old Locke remained marginally ahead of her fellow swimmer on the finishing end but managed to secure the crown of the event. Her blistering performance throughout the event enabled her to occupy gold medal of the event.
With her epic pace, she paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.05 seconds.
The champion was chased by Hannah Ross of Wisconsin Aquatics, who stayed 0.28 seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 17.33 seconds.
Ross was trailed by Hanna House of Carmel Swim Club, who stayed only 0.69 seconds behind and reached the finishing wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 18.02 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Ellen Suek of Team Foxjet-MN, who was only 0.19 seconds slower and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 18.21 seconds for fourth position.
Afterwards, Matthew Grevers upset his opponents by winning gold medal of the Men’s 200m backstroke.
The 27-year-old Grevers remained considerably faster from his subsequent swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.82 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained almost three seconds ahead of Andrew Teduits of Wisconsin Aquatics, who secured silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 04.03 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Cory Chitwood of University of Arizona, who was 0.22 seconds apart and clocked a timing of 2 minutes and 04.25 seconds.
Chitwood was followed by Sean Lehane of Academy Bullets, who finished his race in fourth best place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 05.01 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events while the position holders were invited on the victory stand for awards and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
