Lachlan Macdonald Meyer secures Boy’s Singles U19 title at 2012 Tasmanian Championships
Australia’s emerging shuttler Lachlan Macdonald Meyer proved his mettle as he secured Boy’s Singles U19 title after beating his compatriot Indiana Ponsonby in the final showdown at 2012 Tasmanian Championships in Australia, on Sunday, August 12.
The spirited Lachlan, who was top seeded shuttler in Boy’s Singles draw of the tournament, had to work really hard in the final battle and narrowly defeated the second seeded Indiana in a physically demanding battle.
The top seeded Lachlan found a staggering start in opening set when he played with precision but lost the second game. However, he employed all of his skills in the deciding game and clinched it to end up the three set contest with a tight margin.
In the meanwhile, Indiana played quivering game in opening set but he put up superb show in the second game and levelled the score. Nevertheless, he remained unlucky in the concluding phase of deciding game and lost the match with a respectable difference
on the board.
The opening game was quite easy for Lachlan when he played dominating badminton and took a wonderful lead at the early stage by showing his hard-to-learn craft.
The higher ranked Lachlan continued his positive run and managed a comfortable gap until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Lachlan did not slow down the pace of rallies and remained consistent on the board to end up the set with a smashing margin of 21-13.
In the second game, it was Indiana who surprised everyone by playing at his best speed and he pushed his rival on the back foot until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Lachlan tried to dictate the pace of rallies but failed to create pressure on Indiana and lost the set with a huge difference of 12-21.
In the deciding game, both shuttlers played remarkable badminton by taking the bird early and keeping the pace of rallies quite high. No one could establish a strong position in the set until the break.
After the interval, Lachlan played smart badminton by working well at net and eventually secured the game with a margin of 21-18.
Lachlan emerged as the title winner as he finished off the final encounter in three games with a 21-13, 12-21 and 21-18 score on the board.
