Lachlan Staples wins Men’s 200m butterfly prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Lachlan Staples of Rackley Swim won the preliminary rounds of the Men’s 200m butterfly on fifth day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Sunday, September 16.
The 22-year-old Staples showered his expertise in the distant butterfly discipline as he showed his urgency towards the finishing wall for first position.
He continued his breath-taking efforts in the 200m event and rushed his way towards the finishing blockade in a fastest qualification time of 1 minute and 56.52 seconds.
He was followed by Andrew Cameron of Melbourne VIC, who stayed 0.75 seconds apart and occupied second best qualifying position of the event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 57.27 seconds.
The second best finisher was followed by Shane Asbury of Nunawading, who stayed 0.12 seconds apart and earned third best position of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 57.39 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was followed by Keiran Qaium of Sydney Uni, NSW, who remained 0.21 seconds apart and proved his mettle for fourth best qualifying position by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 57.60 seconds.
Similarly, Qaium was traced by Grant Irvine of St Peters Western Swim Club, who suffered a loss of 0.47 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end as fifth best position holder by reporting a time of 1 minute and 58.07 seconds.
Irvine was traced by Christopher Wright of Southport Olympic Swimming Club, who was 0.12 seconds apart and finished sixth in the race by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.19 seconds.
Wright was traced by Regan Leong of Kokoda, who was one and a half body length slower from his preceding swimmer and touched the wall for seventh position with a timing of 1 minute and 59.46 seconds.
Last position of the race was obtained by Dominic Bilton-Philp of Southside, who was lucky to have secured eighth position of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 59.48 seconds.
Furthermore, Staples expressed happiness over his effort and said that he will try to do the same in the final round.
