Lack of breeze cancelled practice race of 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy: 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit
Hanging of AP Flag over the A Flag proved there was not enough wind to start the race so the 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy management cancelled the practice race. The TP52 fleet was ready
to set sail on Cartegena waters in Spain but the lack of breeze broke their hopes. However, the practice race will be commenced next day to begin the fourth regatta of 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit.
All eight teams of TP52 series have reached Cartagena, Spain to take part in the fourth leg of the season. So far they have seen strong winds in all previous trophies, especially in the
most recent 2011 Region of Sardinia Trophy where most of the sailors were troubled by the famous Cagliari Mistral. The weather conditions in Cartagena were predicted to be strong but they are not on that level yet.
Tim Powell, skipper Ran, who won the Practice Race of Sardinia Region Trophy last month, spoke to the local media about the wind conditions, “The last few regattas have been windy and
so now we have to get to grips with the lighter airs.”
He added, “It is a little more of a challenge for us because all of the sailing that we have done over the last few weeks has been in good breeze, and so we need to get our heads around
it a bit. Of course now it is finesse which required rather than brute force. So it will be a learning curve on that for us.”
On the other hand, Bribon trimmer Ignasi Triay said, “We left a bit early, because we knew there was going to be little wind out there today and we wanted to try a couple of things in
these conditions, because there has not been a lot of days like today so far this year.”
