Lack of genuine pacer puzzles http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karsan-Devjibhai-Ghavri-c70336 – Cricket News Update
BCCI’s head of bowling academy coach, Karsan Ghavri, is bewildered with the lack of young bowling talent in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, and claimed that he has yet to see a fast bowler touching 140kmph in more than a year.
The former Indian pacer heads the bowling academy at Mohali, where BCCI trains over 100 youngsters from all states, between the tender age of 17-19.
The former left-armer, who coaches the lads in a three week campaign, says that teenagers are given proper guidance, which includes instructions over their bowling actions, their diets, along with practice matches, which helps them nurture their overall
fitness.
However, Ghavri laments the fact that no Indian youngster clocks the 140kmph barrier.
“Out of the 120 boys we have trained so far, we have shortlisted around 15 boys who are good and some of them bowl at 135kmph at the nets. But I haven't seen a fast bowler touching 140kmph still," says Ghavri.
He also believes that the three week campaign should be extended to six-weeks, which will give the staff the necessary time to monitor each and every youngster before forwarding his performance to the BCCI.
He was also critical of the Board, regarding the structure and conditions of the Sub-continent, which he believes are not ideal for the development of a fast bowler.
He was of the firm belief that the youngsters should either have a practice tour abroad, or the BCCI should make quick wickets, which are suited to fast bowling.
“…We have reasonably good medium-fast bowlers and there are some more coming up. So, to encourage them we need to make fast tracks. It's important now that India start playing their domestic matches on hard grassy wickets."
These are certainly tough times for Indian Cricket, which has always lacked a genuine pacer. Many explode on to the scene, but no one fulfils his true potential.
It has really hurt the Men in Blue, with the most recent example being a series whitewash at the hands of an http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 side, possessing one of the most lethal attacks in World Cricket.
The BCCI will quickly need to address this issue in order for the team to achieve success on the field.
