Lack of pace puzzles Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 news
Lewis Hamilton of the McLaren-Mercedes team expressed confusion over the lack of pace in the second practice session for the Korean GP held on Friday.
The second practice session clearly saw Hamilton struggling, even though he had set the fastest pace in the session of that morning. In this session, his performance decreased considerably as he fell to eight position. He also failed at beating his personal
best time on the super soft tyres.
“The first session was great,” Hamilton said. “The first session was fantastic, and I don't really know what's happened in this session so we need to analyse and I need to look at it. Wind direction has changed and all those things but it didn't seem to
affect other people so I have to try and figure that out.”
Sebastian Vettel was the quickest in this particular session granting dominance to his team Red Bull. Jenson Button who is the teammate for Hamilton came in fourth fastest. Hamilton himself was 0.498 seconds behind his teammate. He seemed to be having problem
while braking around turn one and kept locking up. His car continued to run wide many times and it was apparent that Hamilton was becoming agitated as he was seen raising his arms.
He quoted, “It's not difficult at all; that's why I put [my hand] up! It's easy! And I kept going wide, straight on.”
Hamilton commented that the huge difference of pace between first and second session could have been caused by a small change the team had made to his car. He pointed out that they had added a small change to the rear ride height. He appreciated Button’s
pace in the session and said that it was a source of encouragement for him. He has hinted at improving his performance in the coming session.
However, Button has confessed that Red Bull is going to be a tough opponent for them and Vettel might earn his team a pole position as the teams prepare to qualify at the Korean Grand Prix.
This session may have not done any good for Hamilton but he still looks confident for the future as he plans to stay calm and decide the correct settings for his car.
