Lack of stamina cannot stop Ong Jian Guo from giving his hundred percent at 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s talented shuttler, Ong Jian Guo, is determined to put in his maximum effort at the 2011 World Championships, starting on August 8, in spite of the fact that the Mixed Doubles player has a medical condition which makes him tired, early in the match.
Ong Jian has a lack of white cells in his blood, which causes him to tire easily yet, the shuttler wants to rise with his partner, Sabrina Chong, by playing top-class badminton at the World Championships.
While talking about his physical condition, Ong Jian said, “I found out about my condition five years ago but I have never used it as an excuse to avoid training. I still go the full distance although I tend to tire easily.”
Speaking about professional career until now, Ong Jian accepted that he has not yet delivered any outstanding performance in the form of winning a major title. However, he is determined to rise to greater heights by playing with spirit.
His partner, Sabrina, is suffering with a minor foot injury at the moment. Ong Jian said, “Sabrina had to take care of her foot injury while I had to iron out some weaknesses in my game. We are getting better as a pair.”
While talking about their defeat in the Mixed Doubles semi-final at the Malaysia Open Grand Prix Gold 2010, Ong Jian expressed that they got treatment from He Hanbin and Yu Yang of China in the second round of the event, as they could not play well against
the Chinese shuttlers.
However, the player is determined to perform well at the upcoming World Championships. He said, “This world meet will be a good platform to see where we stand since breaking into the senior team two years ago. We are the country’s second pair and we hope
to make our way to the top.”
Ong Jian and Sabrina are the fourth seeds in the World Championships and are expected to put up a good show as they are doing well in the training sessions at the moment.
