Lack of surf pushes Roxy Pro Biarritz to September in Hossegor – Surfing news
The 2013 Roxy Pro Biarritz, originally the sixth of eight stops on the 2013 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Championship Tour, has been rescheduled for September due to five consecutive days of minimal swell.
Originally scheduled to kick-off at Biarritz, France, on July 10, the event organisers and ASP officials were forced to call a lay-day due to lack of swell.
While they hoped to see the conditions improve in the following days, Nature appeared to have other plans. The swell continued to remain low and inadequate, thus keeping the event from getting underway.
Much to the relief of the ASP 17 contending for the most coveted honours in the sport and the joy of the fans of surfing, the ASP decided to reschedule the event instead of cancelling it.
The event will now run in conjunction with men’s Quiksilver Pro France in the final week of September in Hossegor.
“It’s been a challenging week surf wise, but the world’s best female surfers have still enjoyed themselves in the beautiful town of Biarritz,” Jessi Miley-Dyer, ASP Women’s World Tour Manager, said. “While we’re disappointed that the swell never manifested
for this year’s event, we’re very pleased to announce that Roxy have committed to rescheduling the event to run in conjunction with the Quiksilver Pro France men’s event in late September. This will allow the 2013 ASP Women’s World Title race as well as the
requalification campaigns of the world’s best female surfers to continue in the best possible fashion.”
Roxy Pro contest director and former four-time ASP Women’s World Champion Lisa Anderson stated that her company was committed to putting the exceptional talent of exciting female surfers on display. Despite the recent disappointment, the event organisers
are looking forward to playing host to the ASP Top 17 in September.
Australia’s Tyler Wright, current No.1 on the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour rankings, was grateful to ASP and Roxy for rescheduling the event instead of letting it become a victim of nature.
Wright and Hawaii’s Carissa Moore, former ASP Women’s World Champion and current No.2 on the 2013 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, are wrestling hard for the grand title.
