Lack of wind troubles fleet on Day 3 of 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship – Sailing Update
Weather conditions on the third day of the 2012 OK Dinghy World Championship were ideal at the start of the day and the fleet was expecting superb proceedings but at the time they were about to launch their boats on the Vallensbaek waters in Denmark, the
breeze went down and the participants had to wait for the winds to build up later in the day.
The race committee was waiting for the breeze to gather around so that they can launch the proceedings. The fleet that consisted of 145 sailors started racing in the afternoon when the forecast changed and a five to seven knots wind began to waft over the
racing area.
Due to the absence of the winds, the fleet was unable to complete all scheduled races and they sailed only in one. The sailors had some trouble during the race because the lack of winds demanded extraordinary tactics from the sailors.
The weather conditions are expected to be the same of the fourth day so the participants must pull up their socks and get ready for troubling conditions.
With sensible sailing skills, New Zealand’s Greg Wilcox was able to claim the leading podium place with 20 points. He claimed a bullet in the only race of the day to get to the leading position. He faced the same trouble because of the conditions but he
showed great tactical skills to stay in the first spot.
Overall standings at the end of Day 3:
1. NZL 544 Greg Wilcox PSV 3, 16, 1 = 20 Points
