Lacoste Ladies Open: Lorena Ochoa falters on greens in second round
Mexican Lorena Ochoa was justified in regretting her woeful performance in the second round of Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 as the retired star shot an over-par 72, tainting her scorecard.
Ochoa is standing tied for the 25th position on the leaderboard, but she is still confident that she can bounce back in the LET (Ladies European Tour) tournament by posting big scores in the final two rounds.
Her performance was decent in the opening round that saw her shoot a 69.
Ochoa, who quit professional golf in 2010, had held the number one position in world rankings for over three years. She is playing the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012 on an invitation.
The golfing icon was seen faltering on most of the holes on Friday, at the prestigious Chantaco Golf Club, France, as she looked like she had completely forgotten her explosive putting that once kept her in the limelight in almost every match she played.
She made a sloppy shot on the first hole, registering a bogey. Then on the par-3 third, Ochoa recorded another bogey, marring her score. In a desperate attempt to regain her confidence, she scored her first birdie on the 7th.
A birdie on the 7th was definitely a huge relief, but Ochoa’s excitement did not last longer as she messed up again and carded another bogey on the 9th hole.
On the back nine, Ochoa tried to rebound as she reeled off three birdies, but the impact was diluted by another three bogeys on the 10th, 12th, and 18th hole.
Regretting her performance slump in the second round, the former world number one said that she tried her best to keep her score under par, but it was not her day on Friday and she made several mistakes on the greens.
“I didn’t play my best, especially on the greens. I struggled with some of the holes out there. I made two three-putts so it’s not a great feeling but at the same time, here I am. I’m okay. It’s good to be able to make the cut and hopefully on the weekend it will be better,” Ochoa said.
“I thought I would make the cut. I was being positive and I thought that my game was in good shape to make the cut. I think what is important right now is to go really low on the weekend”.
