I know that it's good to practice throwing against a wall. but I don't have one so I'm trying to practice inside with a foamy-ish ball. will practicing with a lighter ball cause bad habits or anything?

  1. No, not necessarily. But it's better to practice with a regulation ball.

Wall Ball is great but it's hard to do especially if you don't have a wall. If possible try going to your local school and play wall ball there.

Another thing that helps you feel more comfortable with your stick is doing simple stick tricks. It really helps you learn how to feel where the ball is in your stick.

-Try tossing the ball up and catching it on the back side of your stick. From there you can make it more difficult and throw the ball up and spin your stick in a 360 and catch it in your pocket.

-Toss the ball up and try catching it on your side wall.( it's harder but you'll get it.)

And you can play around with it. Make up your own tricks, you will build a better sense of ball control, and will help you with your stick skills.

As long as you don't go too crazy, I think it's safe to use a regular ball inside... just be careful not to break anything. Or go out in your back yard and you won't have to worry about breaking anything!

They also sell ball rebounders, like this one:
