Ladies, do emotions affect your menstrual cycle?

Okay so my periods are very regular and I always bleed heavy to light. I never spot in the beginning. I just bleed heavy at first and it lightens over the course of the week. Well I started my period seven days ago during a time when I was very emotional(Ecstatic one minute, depressed the next). I was like that for three days. Those three days that I was emotional I just spotted and then when my emotions were normal I bled heavy and it's been that way since and hasn't lightened up at all. What's going on? This has never happened before? Has anyone else experienced this? Oh and I fasted on the second day(I only drank water). Do you think this has more to do with it than my emotions?

  1. If I am more stressed than usual, like from work or relationships I tend to get my period late (on my 4th sugar pill rather than 2nd pill) Or dont get it at all. And they do say that emotions can effect the regularity of your period, because emotions have to do with hormones too.

  2. Emotions have a lot to do with it.  If you're under a lot of stress, it can lead to having no period at all.  I'm sure that's what it was.

  3. Stress definitely can & does!  But, is there any possibility that you might have miscarried? I had something similar happen to me twice- My periods typically last only 4 days- all heavy. But I had severe mood swings as you described then spotted for four days & then my period started- but it was darker & thicker than it had ever been & lasted for 8 days (Twice as long as usual). I went to my gynecologist & she tested the blood. Both times; I was told, I had miscarried:(

  4. I think you have it backwards, It is quite normal for your menstrual cycle to affect your emotions, through the fluctuations in various hormone levels.
