For those of you who live aboard now or have in the past (and it was his idea to live aboard), what was the selling point to get you to agree to move aboard?

I love boats and want to sell the house and move aboard a boat about 45' in length. She won't even entertain the idea as a possibility.

  1. burn the house down

  2. Kidnapp her and take her to your boat. Make sure she wont wake up until your miles from land.

Other than that you could weigh up the pros and cons of living on a boat. Compromise, tell her you could just try it for 6 to 12 months. If she is unhappy then move back to land.

    Good luck!

  3. Tell her you will take her credit cards away if she doesn't move aboard.

  4. I would have never thought my wife would want to live on a boat, especially since we just bought our first house a year ago.

My wife was always talking about wanting to see the world, visit far-away exotic places.  We both know what that would cost for plane tickets and hotels alone.  I got the idea that we should buy a sailboat and cruise the world.  She loved the idea.  Of-course, there are a lot of details to work out, but she's ready to go for it.  She's the one who even told me we should live on the boat at least 6 months before we set sail.  She's only been sailing twice!

Every relationship is different so it all depends.  What you need to do is figgure out what your wife wants and enjoys and work that into the plan.  My wife isn't a big fan of the ocean, but she wants something exciting and to see new places so it weighed out in favor of the boat.  We have a great relationship, which will obviously be important when we're no more than 35 feet apart for long periods of time!

I'll send you a cruising link with interesting info...

Of-course, I'm assuming you live on the coast.  I wouldn't dream of living on a boat in a lake!

  5. actually all I had to do was tell her everyone in the harbor is a partyer, and she fell for it!!!
