Question:

Ladies, what do you wear under your gi tops?

I'm a girl, brown belt in karate. I find when I wear underarmour the sweat right through into my gi instead of absorbing. So the sweat shows on my back esp. and is embarrasing. Should I try just wearing a sports bra? What do you girls usually wear? I can't wear a plain cotton tee- it's way too hot! I know women who just wear a sport's bra, would that be a good idea or no?

  1. The underarmour is supposed to let the sweat bleed through, that's how it keeps you cool. You shouldn't be embarrassed unless you stink. You're there to workout not have a fashion show. I've worked with many women and we all sweat. It's a part of life. If you're still wary try a sportsbra, or one underneath, or a tanktop over the underarmour.

  2. underarmour should be just fine.

I usually wear a tank top or a tee shirt.

  3. Do you work for Under Armour? Because what you described is EXACTLY what it' supposed to do. Stop being embarassed about sweat in a karate class, are you kidding me? You should have gained more confidence by now. And punch the guys below in the nuts for stating "unless you stink". I guess he smells like ******* roses all day, a*****e. Good Luck.

  4. all the girls i know just wear a normal shirt underneath.

your gi should never become see thru it should be a stronger thicker material. if your gi becomes see thru maybe try get a real gi top.

  5. nothing! :D

  6. My entire class wears Under Armour or Under Armour style shirt and my dobok is as dry after class as it was before.

  7. My wife wears a T-shirt and she has a heavyweight gi. Aaron is right it is not a fashion show, so there is no need to be emberassed, unless you have body odor. Normal sweat is part of training though.

I really do not recomend a sports bra with nothing over it.

  8. Hey hidden,

Aaron is right about the purpose of underarmor.

  9. I either wear just a sports bra or one of those sports tanks that have a built in sportsbra.  I'm not sure about Karate, but I do quite a lot of grappling and my gi jacket is constantly getting pulled off, so you definitely have to be comfortable with yourself (and your partners) to wear only a sports bra.  I feel too confined when I wear a rashguard underneath, but some people really like it.  I would give the sports bra tank a try!
