Whats the Difference Between HCG levels & Progesterone levels.?? is the same or what? Can U explain Please.

  1. Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG) is the hormone that the baby (the tiny fertilized egg, at this stage) makes after it implants, which is what HPTs measure. Any level above 5 shows that you're pregnant, and most urine tests measure about 25 (meaning you're VERY pregnant :) LOL

    But progesterone is not made by the egg; instead it's made by the corpus luteum which is part of the ovarian follicle that breaks away from the egg at ovulation. Right after ovulation, it starts making progesterone and keeps doing that for around 14 days. You need the CL to make enough progesterone to sustain a pregnancy, so sometimes your doctor will test for levels. If implantation happens, then the CL keeps making progesterone until the placenta is formed. If no implantation happens, the CL dies, the progesterone stops, and your period is triggered.
