Question:

Ladies- Pregnancy Questions?

I'm new to all the pregnancy stuff. I was browsing looking for answers and having a hard time with everyone's abbreviations, so if you could please not use those when answering this! Thank you so much!

Ok- my husband told me last night that the weekend of Aug 9th he "let it go" inside me. I was immediatley shocked bc we had planned on waiting til October or later to start trying (I went off the pill in May). It also shocked me bc I drink fairly frequently (please don't judge me- I am stopping before we really start trying) but I would HATE to be pregnant and not know it and continue drinking.

So my questions are

1 - What are early symptoms of pregnancy? I'm supposed to start my period in 2 days and feel like I'm kind of having cramps but I've heard you can get those from pregnancy.

2- since it was such a short time ago, could it be possible for me to get my period in a few days but actually be pregnant? if so, will I need to wait until aftfer the period stops to take the test?

3- If I am pregnant, would an at home test show it today or is it too soon?

4- is there a set time that you ovulate? I have seen on here about ovulation charts and tests, but can anyone tell me when in your cycle you ovulate? Like, for example, is it usually 2 weeks before your period or what?

Thank you very much for your answers!! I'm just a little freaked out, if I am pregnant, I want to be taking the best care of myself as possible.

  1. 1. the first sign is sleepiness and the second is being able to pee on comand(lol)

    2. its always posible but rare

    3.yes

    4. yes and usually about 7 days after your cycle ends

  2. 1. you can, I experienced some cramping but it felt mostly like bloating and gassiness. I suggest taking a home pregnancy test about 3-4 days from now, as thats when you'd get the best results.

    2. hmm... lol.. I honestly don't know :P I conceived on the last day of my period and had to wait til my next one was supposed to show up before I tested. It's worth being patient though :)

    3. its way too soon to rely on a home test, you'd have to wait 3 weeks, I think.

    4. for alot of people, they ovulate halfway between your periods, so roughly 2 weeks, yes. others ovulate before or after their period, for example, I ovulate for a few days at the end of my period. but everyone is different, thats why they have ovulation tests and charts, to help each woman figure it out for themselves.

best of luck! I'm sure if you ARE pregnant, a few months won't have made much difference :)

  3. I took diet pills before i knew i was pregnant so don't worry about the drinking.

yes i had my period every mo and still have it during my pregnancy

a at home test will do just fine

  4. 1- early symptoms are different for everyone- I have extremely tender b*****s and am very tired in the first few weeks.

2 - You can have a period and be pregnant but it is rare

3- you could take a home test now but I would wait until you were late by at least 3 days to do one-just my opinion

4- most women ovulate 14 days after the start of their period but everyone is different. If you have regular periods every 28 days then you likely ovulate at 14 days.

hope this helps. I would try not to drink if you can until you know for sure your not pregers just to be safe.

  5. Hey there Mallory,

First of all, you do sound freaked out. Don't worry just yet since you don't know anything for sure. I'll try and help you out although I won't have answers for everything...but I'll try and help.

    1. There are many early symptoms of pregnancy, although yes, they do end up being a lot like PMS sometimes so that makes it tough to know for sure. A short list is: nausea, frequent urination, swollen/tender b*****s, fatigue, headaches.

    2. If you truly get your period, then you aren't pregnant. However, you can still spot and even bleed and be pregnant. There are many gray areas when it comes to this. You definitely don't have to wait to take a test, especially being so close to your period.

    3. You said that you're only two days away from getting your period -- most home tests say they will work up to five days before you get your period, so I would try one like that.

    4. Every woman's cycle is different, but usually each woman's luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period) is about the same. For me, my luteal phase is 13-14 days long. But I don't always ovulate on the same day every month -- this is where things vary -- so I could ovulate on day 18 of my cycle, giving me a 32-day cycle in all, or I could ovulate on day 14, giving me a 28-day cycle. Some women are much more on the dot with their cycles, some aren't. We're all different. But your body tells you in several different ways when it's about to ovulate (check out americanpregnancy.org for more info).

Hope that helps! I understand the worry, but just relax and take a test before you let it get to you too much. Good luck!

  6. 1. I had no symptoms at all when I was TTC no 1

    2. I went to my GP in the morning & tested on the first day I missed my period & it was positive

    3. I am not too sure about home test, maybe wait for another few days

    4. You ovulate on different days. Best way is to check your cervical mucus, should be long & stretchy (like egg white)

You will be fine with the drinking if you have stopped. Nothing is formed yet in the early stage

Advisable to start popping folic acid tablets now

    Good luck

  7. nausea

    and lower back pain

    are usually the earliest signs

but womens intuition well you know..

yes it is possible to have a period and get pregnant because sperm can live in the body for some time

today would be too soon to tell

normally a test will show positive after two weeks

there are some charts on th web where you enter information about your cycle

and it would best be able to tell you when  you are more likley ovulating

    hope i helped some

    :)
