Ladies Scottish Open set to stage tough battle
The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open is going to be held on May 3-5, 2012, at the Archerfield Links in East Lothian, with a strong field containing some of the most competent LPGA stars.
According to the details, the field of the Ladies Scottish Open is yet to be completed, as there are more players expected to confirm their commitment for the event.
Some of the key players who have confirmed to participate in the Ladies European Tour (LET) tournament include Lindsey Wright, Melissa Reid, Swedish Helen Alfredsson and Laura Davies.
The tournament officials said that the defending champion, Catriona Matthew, is also in the field. They said that the other players have welcomed the presence of Matthew, who played amazingly well in the last edition.
In addition to the defending champion, Gwladys Nocera, who won the 2008 edition of the tournament, has also confirmed her participation.
Although Nocera has been having some trouble putting the ball, she appears to have fixed her lapses during the training session.
Officials said that another player who is expected to grab attention is Virginie Lagoutte-Clement. Clement is the 2010 winner of the Ladies Scottish Open.
Despite the strong field, analysts have said that Matthew is likely to be the star performer, as she appears to be in good form these days.
They said Matthew has a vast experience and has shown in the recent events that she can bounce back anytime — a factor that makes her stand out among other players.
Speaking to the media about what she thinks of the Ladies Scottish Open, Matthew said that she looks forward to winning another victory at the prestigious tournament.
She said that she has been training hard on the practice range and has improved her putting to a great extent.
Matthew said that playing in Scotland has always been an amazing experience for her, as she likes performing in front of home crowd.
"I am particularly looking forward to defending my Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open title. Last year's event was one of the highlights of my year as it is fantastic to be able to play in front of a home crowd at my home course, Archerfield," Scottish star said.
