Ladies darts competition forced to adjust on small scale
On one hand, men darts competitions are entering a new direction and dimension every passing day. On the other hand, women competition in darts is facing a clampdown.
This is manifested from the dwindling chances of the Ladies Open Darts event that was scheduled to take place at the Comox Legion.
Due to diminishing chances of the event, the number of participants of the event has also undergone a reduction.
From 33 players, who were earlier making it into the event, the number has slumped down to 14. These 14 players will be arranged in seven different teams during the event.
It is interesting to state that female players who entered the competition showed tremendous stamina by playing matches that lasted up to 9 hours.
The event began with the pairs playing the first two rounds of the game in robin format. Out of these, the top 4 were short listed to proceed into the next stage of the competition.
The top four positions were obtained by teams comprising Brenda Durant and Patti Dennis who were able to reserve their place for the position after knocking Sandi Kohlen and Wendy Jackson.
The third place was subsequently secured by Elaine Hillier and Liisa Salminen, as they emerged victorious in their match against Norma Hanson and Ann Greig.
Apart from the encounters between doubles, encounters between singles also took place. It was this particular phase of the competition that provided 10 darts players to unveil their skills and potentials of darts.
In these competitions, it was Wendy Jackson who was able to successfully edge out Brenda Durant with a score line 2-1.
The third position in the single matches was obtained by Sandi Kohlen by overtaking Leslie Lamouroux.
It is important to mention here that Comox Legion and the competitions it organises are not just restricted to women darts but also encompasses men darts matches.
These matches are expected to get underway from the 17th of next month.
Experts believe that such efforts are of groundbreaking nature to explore novel frontiers in tapping new resources of talent in the game of darts.
Furthermore, these attempts are also pivotal in encouraging women darts on a wider platform.
