Why is 'ladies day' called 'ladies day' at Aintree race course.What is the history of this event?

yep !!!! the 2 answers above have it spot on the ladies dont really go for the racing they go to try to get on the T.V get drunk and flirt

its just a theme to attract more of the female of the species which in turn attracts more males, the women have a fashion show and all dress up like peacocks, and the men try to impress them by buying champagne at silly prices instead of the pint of larger they would have had if the women stayed at home

Most big meets have a ladies day. Its the day we ladies can dress up to the nines and go and bet on the gee gees.
