Ladies golf suffers a great loss: RIP Colleen Walker
The American professional golfer, Coleen Walker passed away after an exhausting fight with cancer. She was 56 years old. Walker took her last breaths at her home in Florida.
The American played for 23 years on the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She had nine titles to her name.
Walker had been diagnosed with cancer in 2003 while she was still playing on the tour. She had breast cancer from which she soon recovered and rejoined the others on the golf course.
Last year, cancer came back to haunt the life of the golf professional. This time around, it had spread over her hips and pelvis.
The American was not lucky to escape from this dreaded disease for the second time and eventually passed away. Walker had an extensive career.
Those who remember her, hold her in high regard. She scored the lowest average in the year 1998, won the Vare trophy and, with that, finished the best year of her golfing career. She was placed fifth on the money list.
Barb Mucha, who was a dear friend of Walker, said, ''Colleen was not only a great ambassador for the LPGA and the game of golf, but more importantly was a true and faithful friend'',
She continued, ''From her caring smile, unselfish ways and deep devotion to her family, her life touched all those she knew. She will be dearly missed, but her love will live on forever in our hearts. I am blessed to have called her friend".
The three-time LPGA Tour winner, Dawn Coe-Jones said that Walker was one of the most competitive golfers and was a true fighter because she never used to give up. Jones added that Walker had a laudable sense of humour and that she will be missed immensely.
Walker left behind her 16-year-old son, Tyler Walker Bakich, who is also a golfer and is one of the top golfers on the junior circuit, as well as her husband Ron Bakich.
She will definitely be missed, and is a great loss for ladies golf.
