Question:

Ladies...your views on this chinese curse? I need women's point of view..?

There is a chinese escalating trilogy of curses.

First one is : May you live in interesting times.

I know its a philosophical question and basically non-gender biased. But, I have thought about these curses for a long time. They are very very wise words methinks. But when I tried to find what girls around me think about it, I only drew stupid answers.

I know this is a serious forum and intelligent ladies do dwell here. Can you give me your take ( a women's perspective, not gender-less).

What would constitute interesting times for a woman? Can it be a curse?

Thank you.

  1. Living an interesting life isn't really a curse. Unless someone sits inside a box all day their life will be interesting

  2. All times have been interesting - and none have been without disasters, wars, depression, famine, oppression, murder, rape, torture, disease, and other horrors - so to me, yes - it is a curse contrary to, "May you live in peace, prosperity, and happiness."

  3. I've heard of that saying before. Here's what I think of it:

  4. gas at 4 bucks a gallon.  all our jobs exported to foreigners.  unemployment and inflation rising.  banks failing.  everyone losing their homes.  terrorists attacking our homeland.  russia and china reemerging as world superpowers while the u.s. sits bogged down in two wars.  yeah.  i'd call these pretty interesting times.

  5. Actually, there is no evidence, oddly, that this "curse" is Chinese and seems to hail from a bunch of pontificating British white men in the 1930's.  The Chinese saying to which may be some association is: "It's better to be a dog in a peaceful time than to be a man in a chaotic period".  To "live in interesting times" is only a curse for people who think that utopia resides in some earlier time and who spend the rest of their narrow-minded, bitter, beetle-nosed, intolerant, maladaptive, boring lives wallowing and writhing in the agony of Change.

  6. It's a trick question because everyone thinks that their own time is interesting.  Good and bad things happen to everyone, so the curse will always be true.

What are the other two curses?

  7. dont mess with curses!!!   there real dangerus...   they always backfire an somthing bad will happen to you...

  8. Interesting times are times connected with changes in the world: wars, riots, changing powers, rampant and uncontrollable deceases etc. Historically speaking, changes had not been good for generations living through them. As women, we often dedicate our lives to care of well being of our families first and foremost. That is why times of drastic changes / interesting times are generally not good for our peace of mind and general health.
