Lady Artemisia Ella and Desert Kiss
Lady Artemisia made a very promising return to action over this course and distance back in April. Having travelled well throughout, she stayed on strongly without quite managing to get to the winner Aphrodisia. She was sent off favourite that day, but looked as though the run would do her the world of good. Sure to strip all the fitter for that, she can win Doncaster’s Fillies Handicap at 7.10pm. Both Magic Echo and Bollin Dolly who finished third and fourth that day have won since, so the form looks very solid and she has only been raised two pounds for that effort, which may look generous following this race. Has an excellent chance of going one better.
Ella is a lightly raced mare for a six-year-old who finished an excellent third to Charm School in the November Handicap at this track on her final start of 2009. Has at least matched that form when finishing runner-up on both starts this year. Last time out, she ran Veloso to half a length in a handicap at Southwell and interesting to see her drop back in trip here. Still may have some room for improvement and cannot be ruled out, but is unraced on ground firmer than good, so the going could be against her this evening.
Annice Stellato made a winning debut back in 2008, landing a decent Newmarket maiden by a length from Capitelli. Was highly tried in her two following starts as a three-year-old, including the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she raced far too freely and eventually finished a tailed off last of ten. Returned to form at the backend of last season, when beating Storyland by a neck in a handicap at Newmarket. Should be all the better for her return to action last month when sixth behind Follow The Flag and is respected here.
Desert Kiss was a much improved performer last season, winning three times over a distance of a mile. She was however disqualified from the last of those wins which came at Sandown, as her jockey was found to have weighed in too light. Her three starts this term have all shown promise of more to come, including last time out when a very creditable third to Den’s Gift at Kempton. This is her first attempt beyond a mile though on breeding she should just about stay the trip. She has however paid for her consistency, receiving little respite from the handicapper and this is what will stop her from winning here.
Fanditha finished her 2009 campaign in good form for Richard Hannon, taking third place behind Teeky in a Newmarket handicap on her final start. Has since switched to Luca Cumani’s yard and is making her return to the fold here. Interesting that the Cumani stable won this race last year, but may well need the run and others prefered.
Tinshu was twice a winner over this distance on the all weather last season, and added to those successes on her penultimate start, when finishing in a dead-heat with Putra One in a handicap at Windsor. Not quite so good last time though when only third off a higher mark at Chepstow. Could be in handicappers grip now and likely to find this tough.
Bagutta Sun is a former German trained runner who has shown no worthwhile form in three starts since joining Tom Dascombe’s stable. Easy to dismiss this one’s chances.
Graceful Descent is a very consistant performer who has finished in the first two on her last eight starts but winning on only one occasion. They have also been in far easier races than this one and is probably punching above her weight here.
