Lady Roberta leads the way to victory in A8 race at Swindon
A greyhound race can sometimes be likened to a game of follow-the-leader. One dog quickly moves ahead of the others, and the other five are forced to follow the leader, as the first-place
title is always on the line.
Lady Roberta (3-1) emerged victorious after playing follow-the-leader with the competition during a 480m A8 race at Swindon Greyhound Stadium. After a bounding start from trap one, she
maintained her lead, and hung on to win the race in 30.45. Another Banjo, the 5-2 favourite in this race, crowded the run up and second, losing 2 lengths in the process. He placed second with 30.45.
Checking in with a third-place finish was Gringos Style (5-1), who crowded the run up after going wide. He was only a ½ length behind Another Banjo with his 30.49 finish. Rocket View (5-1)
had a good view of first place, but crowded the run up to land in third. His finishing time of 30.55 placed him ¾ lengths out of the top three.
The fifth-place finisher was Moreton Crystal (6-1), who was anything but clear in this race. She crowded the run up and second, but rebounded to finish a shoulder behind fourth place,
equalling Rocket View’s time 30.55. Landsdown Gold (4-1) also crowded the run up and second, and lost a big 6½ lengths. She went on to finish the race in 31.07.
Following the A8 race was a 480m A7 race that was won by Droopys Dingle, the 7-4 favourite. Despite moving slowly away, she bounced back to lead fourth and pick up the win in 29.74. Bolt
The Gate (3-1) bolted out of trap four and held an early pace. He would go on to lead first, finishing the race in 29.98. He was 3 lengths behind the winner.
Last Yank (8-1) moved slowly away from the pack, but ran on to finish a ½ length behind second place in 30.02 to take third place. Finishing 2¾ lengths behind him was Corrin Blondie (5-1),
who led to first. She finished the race with a time of 30.24.
Robbies Maldini (3-1) placed fifth after crowding the run up. Her time of 30.30 placed her ¾ lengths out of the number four spot. Bringing up the rear was 9-2 long shot Rockys Tune. She
crowded the run up to the finish line, and finished a neck’s length behind Robbies Maldini in 30.32.
The exciting races at Swindon Greyhound Stadium resume on Wednesday, 3 November. The first race of the evening is scheduled to start at 18:28.
